Rich Wakley definitely has electronic music in his blood. An ever present on the house and techno scene in various guises over the last fifteen years, he looks ahead to 2015 with major excitement.

Across his journey Rich has played and produced a wide spectrum of music taking in the deeper, techier sounds right through to peak time techno. It is this legacy that sees him arrive at his current sound; a mix of solid beats and infectious grooves that is receiving plaudits the world over.

Whether it’s topping the Beatport charts, releasing on labels like Hot Creations or blasting out sets all over the world Rich’s energy is there for all to see. As a DJ, Rich has played many of the world’s leading venues such as; Tresor, Space in Ibiza, Pacha in Buenos Aires, Ultra in Miami and The Ministry of Sound in London. He is also no stranger to the big festival stages having graced Burning Man, Sonar, Kazantip, and Exit festivals.

As a producer and label manager, he has crafted many chart topping hits, received continual BBC Radio 1 airplay and helping to launch a multitude of careers. With releases on OFF, Roush, Definition, Mile End and Resonance coming up in next few months, as well as remixes by Darius Syrossian and Jamie Trench his creative output is going to be as high as ever.

With another chapter about to be written in Rich’s musical biography we can certainly keep a close eye as this year promises to be another cracker!

Hello Rich!! How Are You? What do you have scheduled for today?
Hi there, thanks for having me! I’m in the studio today putting some finishing touches to a couple of new original tracks and also a collaboration project with my good friend Raffa FL. I’m also doing some last minute bits of preparation for ADE, checking in, sorting music and finalising some meetings. After that I will probably hit the gym and then relax with a spot of Star Wars Battlefront Beta on the Xbox!

Please tell us a bit about your latest releases!
I have recently had EP’s on Mr Carter and Straight Ahead Music including a compilation that I mixed alongside label boss Sascha Sonido. I’ve also had two b2b single releases on the MadTech summer compilations. But my most recent EP has just dropped on Leftwing & Kody’s awesome Lost Records called ‘The Wolf Of Old Street EP’ which has been doing some serious damage in my sets over the past few months. It also includes another track ‘Truffle Shuffle’ which has been remixed by Kevin Over.

Which release was the one who gave you the most attention so far?
Definitely my EP on Lost has given me the most exposure and been the most successful so far. ‘The Wolf Of Old Street’ is still climbing the Beatport Tech house chart at number 32. The B-side ‘Truffle Shuffle’ has also been supported on Radio 1 by Danny Howard. The response I have had has been mind-blowing. It’s been supported by so many artists I look up to and respect such as Darius Syrossian, Sidney Charles, James Zabiela, Steve Lawler, DJ T, Nathan Barato, Huxley and Cera Alba. I’ve even received a couple of videos from Darius and James Zabiela of them dropping the track in the clubs, which has been amazing to see. I receive messages on a daily basis of people who have been supporting and showing the love for this EP.

Tell us a bit about your upcoming releases! Is there anything special planned for end of 2015 or 2016?
In November I have an EP coming on Twisted Fusion called ‘Playground Tactics” which includes two remixes from Truth Be Told and Back&Forth. Following that I have an EP on Straight Ahead Music called ‘In The Hood’ which includes a remix from Di Chiara Brothers. I also have my own remixes forthcoming on Carpe Diem, Straight Ahead and Incorrect including one for Ramon Tapia, which I am particularly excited about. And I have some collaboration projects in the pipeline with Raffa FL, Di Chiara Brothers and Katal.

As you are touring a lot, please tell us something about your experience around the globe. What is your favourite city or country and why?
I have toured all over the world over the years. I love many different countries for different reasons. Everywhere I go I have had different experiences, both culturally as well as musically. Crowds vary from place to place but if I had to pick one place then it would have to be Buenos Aires in Argentina. I played at Pacha over there, which is an absolutely stunning club and the crowds and people I met were awesome. One of the best things I did while I was there was a graffiti tour of the city. I would recommend this to anyone. Such a great way to see the city and get a better understanding of it’s culture and politics. As well as see some sick street art!

What was your funniest or craziest experience while touring?
I once played in club in Russia called Snow. The DJ Booth was in an actual JCB digger. At the peak of the night the inside of the club started snowing and the digger would move onto the dancefloor amongst the people. Absolute madness!
