Nowadays SKAI aka Kai Schmidt occupies a post as the labelhead of R|Y|M – Re:Fresh Your Mind. The German-Chilean shares his executive chair of his music label with the old acquaintance Gorge, known as the brain of 8bit records and renowned for his producing skills, especially for the high charted tracks of Nick Curly.
By thinking outside the box, SKAI created a platform for a subcultural exchange between artists and music lovers – R|Y|M. Resulting from series of events in Germany, but mainly in the Rhine-Main area, SKAIs project has cultivated to a stage for old hands in the business such as DJ Le Roi, Mario Aureo and David Keno. But he is always on the scout and even open-minded for developing new talents, provided that they match with SKAIs and Gorges high musical demands.
SKAI and R|Y|M have proved a recipe for EPs which enjoying popularity on the dancefloors.

For those who think SKAI would rather stay in the background, no chance. Born and raised in the record collection of his parents, his floating sound is still influenced by South American sense of rhythm and percussive house music. Started his musical career anno 1994, today SKAI is considered as one of the most influential DJs either in the Rhein-Main-Area as well as in the international scene. Gigs in Ibiza, Zürich, Barcelona and Copenhagen and of course his residency at the world famous institution for electronic music CocoonClub in Frankfurt as part of the international brand EMM brought him credit way beyond the national borders.

Hello mate! How Are You? What do you have scheduled for today?
Hey guys, although it’s really busy at the moment, I’m pretty good. I make the last arrangements for our next release today.

You are label owner (Re:Fresh Your Mind), producer and touring almost every weekend. How do you manage this massive schedule?
Yeah, the whole thing is very time-consuming, but you have to see that I’m the lucky guy to combine my common workday with my passion. That’s why I couldn’t do any better, I love my job. Sounds cheesy, but that is the ’secret‘.

Please tell us a bit about your latest releases!
Hm, I personally believe that my latest release, the READY EP(RYM013), proves that I’m not only ‚The Labelhead‘, who doing administrative stuff, but rather an artist. The two originals of the Ep, Ready and Somebody, rouse your tired feet in the early club morning with melancholic as well as drifting sound. At this place once again thanks to Mihai Popoviciu and Christian Nielsen for their outstanding remixes.

Tell us a bit about your upcoming releases! Is there anything special planned in 2016?
As I just broached, my common business happens in the background of R|Y|M – Re:Fresh Your Mind. But close as I can figure it, I’m pretty sure I will produce new content in a short wile. Apropos future, i’m really thrilled about the upcoming releases on Gorges and my label. The next one, IMAGINE THE FUTURE EP (RYM014) is not only a package of warm-up-weapons full of dynamics and massive kicks, but rather a perfectly crossover for acid influences. Great work by Mano Andrei!
