Sid Vaga & Herald are two French natives.
Sid now lives in New York City and Herald in Paris.
Two people who came together through colliding musical worlds as established and respected artists in their own right.
Meeting on the grounds of a mutual love for creating and spinning high caliber electronic dance music. The pair originally connected through Herald’s proposal to remix Sid’s track ‘Sereias’ on Brooklyn based Wonderwheel Records. A few months later, Sid remixed Herald’s ‘Eartha’ on the French label Laboratory.
With both releases and remixes receiving worthy industry support, it became clear the two artists were to become not only collaborators, but good friends with genuine artistic synergy.
Herald brought to the table his experiences through releasing on world renown labels such as: Serial Recordings, Laboratory and Joeski’s Maya Records. And Sid likewise on Wonderwheel Records, 3Bridges, Deeplomatic and Unknown Season (Tokyo).
The fusion of their backgrounds they each bring to projects is what led them to signing tracks like their mega collaboration project, ‘Be As One’ featuring vocals by Roy Davis Jr., on pristine electronic music label, Kling Klong Records (Berlin). This track was remixed by Toronto’s illustrious, Nathan Barato (Hot Creations). The full release turned some big heads their way with receiving support by some of dance music’s elite class vis-à-vis: Monika Kruse, Riva Starr, Josh Butler to name a few. . .
Since then the tracks of this release got picked up on countless compilations on labels such as Abode, Toolroom Records, Natura Viva, Voltaire Music and more.
Earlier this year the duo released on Great Stuff Recording’s ‘To the Underground’ compilation with the track ‘It’s On’, which within a week was charted by DJ Chus.
Forging forward on that momentum, Sid and Herald’s recent productions have found homes on M.in’s label My Favourite Freaks with a 2 track EP ‘Journey’ featuring original vocals by none other than house music icon and veteran Roland Clark including a massive remix by Davina Moss due to come out very soon!
Simply put, Sid and Herald are truly passionate about music and sharing their gifts and talents to underground electronic music lovers all over the globe.
Hello mates! How Are You? What do you have scheduled for today?
We both start our day listening to what’s new in the house and tech music world while having coffee J Then studio time, which is our daily playground!
Please tell us a bit about your latest releases!
Our latest collaborations came out on Kling Klong (Berlin) with the tracks ‘Be As One’ and ‘Dissident’ and on Great Stuff Recordings on the various artists ‘To the Underground’ compilation with a darker tech-house yet dancefloor friendly track titled ‘It’s On’.
SV: Prior that I remixed Pete Moss & Jay Hill’s ‘Stanna Guld’, a sultry deep house track released on Unknown Season’s House Tree compilation.
Prior to that I released ‘Get Up Daddy’ remixed by French longtime staple DJ W!ld on Deeplomatic Recordings.
H: I released Eartha, which was my first African influenced track with balafon notes, I got to visit an area that was new to me, which was fun. Released on Laboratory Recordings
Which release was the one that gave you the most attention so far?
The ‘Be As One’ release on Kling Klong (Berlin) received lots of support from many reknown artists. It featured vocals from Roy Davis JR and was fiercely remixed by Nathan Barato.
The 3 tracks on the release, ‘Dissident, ‘Be As One’ and its remix’ got picked up by over a dozen compilations on labels such has Toolroom, Abode, Natura Viva, Voltaire and more.
Tell us a bit about your upcoming releases! Is there anything special planned?
Yes, very special! We are very excited about our upcoming release ‘Journey’ on ‘My Favourite Freaks’ with Roland Clark’s and his uplifting vocals including a sick Davina Moss remix coming out in a couple weeks. On the B-Side ‘Siesta’ which is a hypnotic late side techno oriented track.
Also we are coming out with ‘Poolside’, a classic style deep house track sprinkled with female vocals on Japanese label Unknown Season [Tokyo]. Expect it early this summer.
Finally we are collaborating with our dear friend Jay Hill [Emerald City / Superfreq] on a track that we are very excited about and is taking great shape!
As you are touring a lot, please tell us something about your experience. What is your favourite city or country and why?
SV: Berlin! I just love how people in this city go out to dance. I thought people going out were less about how sexy or how well they are dressed or shooting selfies, that it’s more about feeling the music and dancing their heart out.
I also loved Novi Sad, Serbia. There is something to be said about one of the iconic ‘Exit festival’. It’s really moving to see couple hundred thousand people gathering in the Petrovaradin fortress and it’s many stages all night ‘til morning, in great spirit! J
And New York! Because of some of it’s great underground parties and afterhours, and here you’ll see some of the best house music dancers ever!
H: Yes I ditto Sid on New York, love that city and feel very much!
Also loved Shangai!
What were your TOP 5 gigs so far?
SV: Cielo NYC, got to play several parties there like the Toca Cielo and Funkbox parties, so I can’t tell which was my favorite but this medium sized institution which sadly closed after an incredible 15 year run was one the best room I’ve had the pleasure to play in. The DJ booth was like a spaceship, Funktion 1 sound system and sunken dancefloor was truly made for the dancers!
Exit Festival, Urban Bug Stage, a smaller (2000 ppl) stage which is known to cater to a more underground minimal techno music crowd. Playing for them was an absolute high, they were present and cheering at every moment!
We Love Summer, Bouznika, Morocco. Great gathering of beautiful souls and friendly faces organized by my good friend Yacine aka Secret 47. I remember that gorgeous sunny afternoon, on the beach, it was happiness and awesome music all around, I don’t think I’ve ever felt so welcomed!
Another great memory was playing in Berlin’s Chalet One year anniversary with DJ Kaos. We were doing an awesome afterhours back 2 back set of B-Side obscure disco. The crowd was really bonding with us, all smiles, I’ll never forget it.
H: For me it was NYC’s Bushwick A/V because of it’s heavy sound system and array of international talents coming thru, but most importantly for it’s faithful ‘ready for the world’ late night crowd!
Also playing for Le Cercle at Flow in Paris, along with my buddy Ange Siddhar. Spinning tunes on La Seine that summer was just a treat that still brings me smiles.
Finally I have great memories about rocking nights at Bar Rouge and at Le Baron in Shangai. Their vibrant crowd and amazing venues are really quite something.
What are your top 5 tracks that are really working the dance floor in your sets at the moment?
Tough question, there are so many!
Paolo Martini, Simion – Hustle Jam
Georges Smeddles – Start the Party
Barbara Tucker – Beautiful People [Floorplan remix]
Purple Disco Machine – Body Funk [Dom Dolla Extended Mix]
Quim Manuel o Esperito Santo – Eme Lelu [Adam Port Edit]
