Hailing from Manchester (UK), Transcode is a dynamic and highly talented producer / DJ. His sound leans towards energetic & deep, driven techno but he certainly doesn’t limit his horizons, with an unquestionably unique ability to design deep and elaborate tracks that ignore the generic rules and constraints of genres.
As a creative artist his work has been acknowledged and supported up by some of the most prestigious labels and artists in the business. Recent support has come from a wide range of tastemaker DJs, such as Laurent Garnier, Oliver Koletzki, Joris Voorn, Pleasurekraft, Alan Fitzpatrick, Wehbba, ANNA & many more. His work has also been picked up by a host of Radio djs including Anna Lunoe, B.Traits (BBC Radio 1), Deadmau5 (BBC Radio 1) and Eric Prydz (EPIC Radio).
With multiple tracks getting into the Beatport Techno top 10 and releases on revered labels such as Stil Vor Talent & Filth On Acid, Transcode keeps pushing high quality music into the world and has a promising and exciting future ahead of him.
Hello mate! How Are You? What do you have scheduled for today?
Hey mate I’m very well thanks, hope you are well too! I actually have a pretty busy day ahead in the studio, I’ve been trying to finish off a few tracks recently that are almost ready to send out to labels. I’m a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to music production, so I like to make sure I am 100% happy with my work before sending it anywhere. I also run my own independent mastering business on the side, so I will have a few masters for clients that I will need to do in the evening. I’m a geek in the studio though so it doesn’t really feel like work.
Please tell us a bit about your latest releases!
My latest release was a remix of a track called ‘Tornado’ by Hidden Empire which has just come out on Stil Vor Talent. I’m really happy with how positive the response has been so far, in the time of writing this it’s already reached number 27 in the Melodic House & Techno Beatport charts after just 4 days which is definitely a record for me. It’s really nice to see and I’m very grateful that people are supporting it.
The release before that was a solo EP on Reinier Zonneveld’s Filth On Acid imprint. The release gained some major support from the likes of Pan Pot, Sasha, Victor Ruiz, Oliver Huntemann, Wehbba and many more.
Which release was the one that gave you the most attention so far?
I think the release that has given me the most attention was a track called ‘Magnetic Empathy’ which was released last year on Stil Vor Talent. It was my first Beatport top 10 so that was a big moment for me and definitely helped put my name on the map. The track is very emotional, and I had a lot of people that messaged me privately or spoke to me at gigs to tell me how much that track moves them which was very humbling, always gives me confidence in what I do when I hear how much my music means to people.
Tell us a bit about your upcoming releases! Is there anything special planned?
I actually have something very special planned for later this year. I have my first Vinyl release coming out on EGG London’s label ‘What Came First’ which will be a 2 track EP including a remix from Secret Cinema and OC & Verde. I massively admire both of these acts. Secret Cinema has been a legend in the techno scene for a long time and OC & Verde have been killing it recently so its super exciting to have them remix my work.
As you are touring a lot, please tell us something about your experience. What is your favourite city or country and why?
I think playing in India last December was my favorite experience so far, playing in Europe is always great but I’m pretty adventurous. I like to experience new places that have a rich culture and are very different to what I already know. It would’ve been nice to have stayed longer and experienced more of the Country but playing to a big crowd at a beach club in Goa was pretty special.
What were your TOP 5 gigs so far?
1. Headline gig at Watergate in Berlin for the first time.
2. Playing at a beach club in Goa, India.
3. Playing with ANNA and Wehbba at Gorilla in Manchester.
4. Headline gig in the French Alps in a little village called Meribel.
5. First ever international gig in France for the Carton-Pate crew was an amazing experience.
What are your top 5 tracks that are really working the dance floor in your sets at the moment?
I like to test and play a lot of my own unreleased music to see how they perform on the dance floor. Some of the tracks such as ‘Valhalla’, ‘Genesis’ and ‘Acid Dreams’ have gone down really well. There are lot of great tracks out there from other artists so it’s hard to pick the top ones but 5 that are doing well in my sets at the moment would be:
Victor Ruiz – The Eye Of The Beholder (Noir Music)
Spektre – Soul Movement (Filth On Acid)
Enrico Sanguilano – Hidden T (Drumcode)
Ilija Djokovic – Epica (Forthcoming Filth On Acid)
SAMA- The Beholder (Noir Music)
Thank you for your time and this interesting interview!
