Biography

Gorge aka. Pit Waldmann has been a musician, DJ and producer for more than 18 years. Gorge started out playing drums and piano but at the end of the 80’s, beginning of the 90’s he became inspired by the upcoming electronic dance music scene, which changed his path from being a live musician to a DJ and producer.

At the same time, Gorge was co-running 8bit Records together with his partner Nick Curly along with his second imprint Katchuli Records. Both labels received worldwide credibility over the last years and the so called „Mannheim sound“ changed the minimal trend back to deep groovy house music.

Throughout the years Gorge has released several club friendly deep house tracks on highly rated labels like Freerange, Objectivity, Diynamic, Systematic and Brise, only to name a few of them, all receiving high positions at the Beatport and Decks charts. In 2010 he was nominated as one of the top 5 Beatport deep- and techhouse artists.

Gorge’s first album „Mood“ was released in 2010 and gained great reviews showing his talent in producing timeless deep house music as well as club friendly house tracks. Gorge has also become one of the most frequented remixers. He has done approximately 40 remixes over the last few years – all reaching high chart positions as well as making him Nr. 8 charted all time artists on Resident Advisor.

Over the last years Gorge has built a greatreputation as a DJ playing in some of the best clubs in the world such as Watergate (Berlin), Rex (Paris), DEdge (Sao Paulo), Cielo (NYC), Space (Ibiza), Zoo Project (Ibiza), Electric Pickle (Miami), Cargo (London), Arma 17 (Moscow)

Interview

Hello Gorge! How Are You? What do you have scheduled for today?

Hi, I’m fine and have a very tight schedule today. Demo check for 8bit records and after that mastering session of the next Re:Fresh Your Mind (RYM) release. When this is done i’m gonna mixdown my upcoming release for 8bit and 2 more Ep’s i produced lately.

You are Label owner ( 8bit, Re:Fresh Your Mind) , Producer, and every weekend touring. How do you handle this massive weekly schedule?
Well… sometimes i don’t know :-)). I definitely plan my weekly schedule to get everything done. Sometimes it’s hard as you need to do office work in between music production as the worst things (for example vinyl pressing delayed) always happen on your most creative days. It’s hard to get back into the flow after you called 5 people and wrote 30 mails and reorganized everything. The good thing is i have 2 partners running the labels with me, so things always work out in the end.

What is your plan for 2015 and is there anything special coming soon?
2015 was a great year. We celebrated 10y 8bit with 4 releases (2 more coming in november and december) with a special artwork and 10 clubdates throughout the whole year. One of them was a great night together with Mobilee celebrating out label birthdays at Pacha/ Barcelona during Sonar week and we’ll end the year on 25th of december at Rakete/Nürnberg.

How would you describe your sound?
Groovy deephousetech with melodic elements.

What keeps you motivated to make further, as DJ / Producer?
Creating timeless music is my motivation. Taking people on a trip with my music and dj sets in countries all over the globe. I love groove and synthesizer programming and it’s always magic to see what comes out of 2 or 3 oscillators paired with some effects and bring all this together in a 7 minutes journey for the dancefloor. It’s very good to still see people play some of my older tracks in their sets nowadays and having the feeling i’ve done something special here.

As you are touring a lot, please tell us something about your experience around the globe. What is your favourite city or country and why?
I played many times in South America especially brazil which has become to one of my favourite places in the world. The weather is mostly great and there’s a big variety of nature and wildlife.
My party experiences were mostly great and so i have 2 clubs in brazil in my top 5 giglist 🙂

What were your TOP 5 gigs so far?
D Edge – Brazil
Space – Ibiza
Warung – Brazil
Hive – Zürich
Watergate – Berlin

What are your top 5 tracks that are really working the dance floor in your sets at the Moment?

Benno Blome – Abotha (Mihai Popoviciu remix) – Time has changed
