LABELS: Moon Harbour, Snatch, Suara, Glasgow Underground, Kling Klong, Toolroom
Vangelis Kostoxenakis is a dedicated DJ & music producer hailing from the south side of Athens, Greece.
His desire to create music led to him studying music technology & sound engineering at college, being the perfectionist he is he admits he’s still polishing his craft to this day.
In an expansive career in the business he has developed a deep musical background through various styles yet has always remained dedicated to house music, with several successful monikers such as Phatjak, Angel Stoxx & Breaking Toys gaining great levels of commercial success, and of course his latest trademark signature sounds under his birth name.
VK is releasing unconventional but club friendly tracks on today’s top labels such as Kling Klong, Suara, Snatch!, Stereo Productions, Moon Harbour and Toolroom to name a few, which can be found regularly at the top of the charts.
Not following trends or music “fashion”, VK is in constantly in the studio, producing new exciting material that is turning heads, while focusing on his brand new label ‘Talk of the Town’ which will showcase fresh music from local and international artists.
Of course his talents have not gone unnoticed with regular A-list DJ support, and a series of radio plays from Annie Mac on BBC Radio 1.
He’s the all round bona fide artist on the rise, so catch him of you can…
Hello mate! How Are You? What do you have scheduled for today?
Hi, I’m very good, a bit hot actually. Temperature hit 38C in Athens which means summer is full on.
I’ve just finished a new samples compilation for Looptone which is gonna hit stores soon and is one of my best so far. Then I’ve planned a couple hours studio session to finalise a new EP and then its beach time!
Please tell us a bit about your latest releases!
My EP (Senhor Bob) on Toolroom was just released and I’m super excited as it has been greeted with great feedback from the DJ community. It’s been getting a lot of support.
Which release was the one who gave you the most attention so far?
I think Ladies on Clarisse last year was massively played and still is but I think my EP on Suara and Glasgow Underground with last one been played by Annie Mac 5 weeks on the row on BBC R1 was a game changer for me.
Tell us a bit about your upcoming releases! Is there anything special planned?
Last 3 months been awfully busy in terms of studio production but me and my management are actually super happy as 90% of the music is signed. We have on the to be released list an EP on Criminal Hype along with a Rafa FL remix, a 4 track EP on Moon Harbour which has been hammered by Matthias in his latest sets, a 2 tracker on Glasgow Underground, a 3 track EP coming our on Food Music, a forthcoming collab with Green Velvet for Relief and I’m in the studio for the finish of a second track for an EP on Snatch.
As you are touring a lot, please tell us something about your experience. What is your favourite city or country and why?
Touring is great as you get the chance to meet new people, different cultures from your own and see cool places. Of course it can be tiring at times or you miss your family when on road but that’s the job and i love it.
I think I might have to choose Brazil specially the south side of the country. The people know how to party. I’ve been 3 times and i cant remember a single tour that I didn’t have an amazing time.
What were your TOP 5 gigs so far?
That is quite a tough one, i wouldnt want to be unfair. Each show is special to me
