LABELS: TRONIC / OCTOPUS REC
Emerging from the Toronto underground and now a fixture in the global scene, Weska’s passion for the electronic music scene first began with a pair of newmark TT500s and a two-channel mixer at the age of 15. Years later, he found his way into the studio. Melodic yet at times dark, his visions are consistently translated into distinct and commanding tracks. Embodying that energetic spirit, his productions land on the dance-floor with immense vitality, working with labels such as Tronic, Octopus, and Kraftek to name a few. Weska has been known to explore the depths of musical styles, but one thing is for sure – he always remains true to his passion: techno.
Hello mate! How Are You? What do you have scheduled for today?
Hi mate! Very well thanks. Today I have my set recorded from the Octopus Recordings party at La Santanera during the BPM Festival 2017
Please tell us a bit about your latest releases!
At the end of last year I had a single out on Octopus recordings titled Maskelyne, and just this week my single “Reach” came out on Mark Reeve’s Subvision label.
Which release was the one who gave you the most attention so far?
I think it was my most recent EP Say To Me on Octopus in September. The EP gained support from a lot of the bigger guys in the scene and the feedbacks were great.
Tell us a bit about your upcoming releases! Is there anything special planned?
I have a few remixes coming out in the spring that I’m excited about, and some original work due out later on in the year!
As you are touring a lot, please tell us something about your experience. What is your favourite city or country and why?
As I’m still new to touring there’s a so much of the world that I have yet to explore. But when I went on my recent German tour I had a great experience exploring the country. The people like it tough music wise, but are very kind.
What were your TOP 5 gigs so far?
Playing in my hometown of Toronto at CODA is always special. They gave me some great opportunities to play there, and I’ve met a lot of cool people through them. I loved playing in at Gewölbe in Cologne, and Magdalena in Berlin. Both had amazing hospitality, a great vibe, and wicked sounds systems! My recent gig at the Octopus party at La Santanera during the BPM festival was so so good (and very hot haha). I played in an abandoned pool recently in the middle of the Guatemalan countryside, right next to an active volcano. Definitely have to include that, it was pretty special.
What are your top 5 tracks that are really working the dance floor in your sets at the moment?
In no particular order:
Ilario Alicante – Virgo Storm [Cocoon]
Drunken Kong – Don’t See Me [Promo]
Skiver – Shibuya [Subvision]
Markus Suckut – Zero Six Nine [Rekids]
Macromism – Boreal Dust [Promo]
Thank you for your time and this interesting interview!
